Class Descriptions

 

Pre-Primary (Lt. Pink: approx. ages 3-4) - Students learn to express themselves through creative movement and music. They will learn gross motor skills and fine motor skills through graceful exercises. They will begin to learn musicality and rhythm through clapping, marching, and dancing. Students will learn important skills such as waiting their turn and order of movements through fun dance games, and choreography. They will gain confidence and stage presence as they are given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Primary (Lavender: approx. ages 4-5) - Students learn to express themselves through creative movement and music. They will learn gross motor skills and fine motor skills through graceful exercises. They will begin to learn musicality and rhythm through clapping, marching, and dancing. Students will learn important skills such as waiting their turn and order of movements through fun dance games, and choreography. They will gain confidence and stage presence as they are given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Level I (Light Blue: approx. ages 5-7) - Students will begin to learn structured ballet technique and terms. Classes will include warm-up, stretching, and barre/centre work exercises to help the students build strength. They will also learn free movement exercises and games to encourage creativity and imagination. They will continue to work on gross and fine motor skills as in pre-primary class and they will gain confidence in themselves and learn stage presence as they are given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Level II (Garnet Red: approx. ages 7-9) - Students will learn an early intermediate level of classical ballet technique as well as correct posture, turn out, and anatomy. Warm up, stretching, barre work, centre work, free movement exercises, and choreography will make up the class syllabus. Students will gain confidence in themselves and learn stage presence as they are given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Level III (Royal Blue: approx. ages 9-11) - Students will learn intermediate classical ballet technique. Classes will focus on correct posture, turn out, anatomy lessons, and proper nutrition. Warm up, stretching, barre work, centre work, free movement exercises, and choreography will make up the syllabus. Students will gain confidence in themselves and learn stage presence as they are given the opportunity to perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

Level IV (Burgundy: approx. ages 11 and up) - Students will learn late intermediate classical ballet technique. Classes will focus on correct turn out, posture, poise, and grace. Classes syllabus: warm-up, barre-work, center work, stretching, and thera-band exercises. Students will also have opportunities to practice partner work, and pre-pointe/pointe exercises during class. Students will gain confidence and stage presence as they perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Level V (Black: approx. ages 13+) -  Students will learn advanced classical ballet technique. Classes will focus on correct turn out, posture, poise, and grace. Class syllabus: warm-up, barre-work, center work, stretching, and thera-band exercises. Students will also have opportunities to practice partner work, and pointe exercises during class. Students will gain confidence and stage presence as they perform in The Nutcracker and a spring ballet show. 

 

Pre-Pointe/Beginning Pointe: - This class gets students ready for pointe shoes by focusing on specific exercises that strengthen the ankles, feet, and legs. This class is for anyone aged 9 and up who wishes to begin preparing to dance on pointe. Those whose feet are deemed ready may be chosen to get fitted for pointe shoes in this class as well. 


Intermediate Pointe: (For those approved for pointe shoes and enrolled in a ballet class. Read this link to learn more about how pointe shoe readiness is determined) - Pointe technique classes focuses on exercises starting at the barre and building towards work in the centre. Syllabus will focus on gaining strength, flexibility, and balance.
